Detailed Solution

Glucagon is a peptide hormone secreted by the alpha cells of pancreas. It plays an important role in maintaining the normal blood glucose levels. Glucagon acts mainly on the hepatocytes and stimulates glycogenolysis (breakdown of glycogen) resulting in an increased blood sugar (hyperglycemia).

Glycogenesis is synthesis of glycogen from glucose which is a function of insulin. It is a hypoglycemic hormone secreted by the beta cells of pancreas.
