Given below are two statements.

Statement I: As the filtrate moves through the descending limb of Henle's loop, it becomes progressively concentrated.

Statement II: As the filtrate moves through the ascending limb of Henle's loop, it becomes progressively diluted.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below.

The descending limb of loop of Henle is permeable to water but almost impermeable to electrolytes. This results in the concentration of the filtrate during its descent.  The ascending limb is impermeable to water but facilitates active and passive transport of electrolytes. Consequently, as the concentrated filtrate pass upward, it gets diluted due to the passage of  electrolytes to the medullary fluid.
