Statement I is true. Semilunar valves (such as the aortic and pulmonary valves) close when ventricular pressure falls below the pressure in the major arteries (aorta and pulmonary artery). This closure prevents blood from flowing back into the ventricles during diastole (relaxation phase of the heart).
