Detailed Solution

Both statements correct.
Statement I is accurate because deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) serve as the substrates for DNA replication. During DNA replication, DNA polymerase enzymes use dNTPs to add individual nucleotides to the growing DNA strand, complementary to the template strand.
Statement II is also accurate. While dNTPs are the building blocks used to create the new DNA strand, they also provide the energy required for the DNA polymerization reaction. When a dNTP is incorporated into the growing DNA chain, the high-energy phosphate bond in the triphosphate group is cleaved, releasing energy. This energy is used to form the phosphodiester bond that links the incoming nucleotide to the existing DNA strand and to drive the polymerization reaction forward. So, in essence, the hydrolysis of the triphosphate group of dNTPs provides the energy needed for DNA polymerization.
