Detailed Solution

Sutton and Boveri were early 20th-century cytologists who independently and collectively contributed to our understanding of how Mendel's laws of inheritance were related to the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis. They proposed the chromosome theory of inheritance, which explained that genes are located on chromosomes and that the segregation and assortment of chromosomes during meiosis corresponded to Mendel's laws of segregation and independent assortment. This work provided a physical basis for Mendel's genetic principles. The rediscovery of Gregor Mendel's work on the inheritance of characters did indeed occur in the early 20th century. The three scientists associated with this rediscovery were Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns, and Erich von Tschermak-Seysenegg. They independently and concurrently recognized the significance of Mendel's work on heredity and published their findings in 1900, which led to the revival of interest in Mendelian genetics.
