Detailed Solution

Mendel's experiments with pea plants led to the discovery of the principles of inheritance, which include the law of independent assortment. This law states that different genes (or factors, as Mendel referred to them) segregate independently of one another during the formation of gametes. In other words, the inheritance of one trait is not dependent on the inheritance of another trait. Mendel's law of independent assortment holds true for genes located on different chromosomes. It does not apply to genes that are closely linked and located on the same chromosome.
