Given below are two statements.

Statement I:The reaction rate in biological systems is temperature-dependent.

Statement II:Temperature coefficient,Q₁₀ provides that the rate of a reaction increases for every 10-degree rise in the temperature

In the light of the above statements choose the correct answer from the options given below.

Statement I and statement II are true - Enzymes generally function in a narrow range of temperature. Each enzyme shows its highest activity at a particular temperature  called the optimum temperature. Activity declines both below and above the optimum value.

The rate of a reaction increases for every 10-degree rise in the temperature while for every 10 degrees  decrease of temperature rate of the reaction reduces by half.

 Low temperature preserves the enzyme in a temporarily inactive state whereas high temperature destroys enzymatic activity because proteins are denatured by heat.
