Detailed Solution

Glandular layer of uterine wall is endometrium.

The uterus is histologically composed of three distinct layers: the perimetrium, myometrium, and endometrium.

  • The perimetrium, or serosa, is the outer layer consisting of simple squamous epithelium and areolar connective tissue. It also covers the urinary bladder anteriorly.
  • The myometrium, in the middle, is comprised of three layers of smooth muscle fibers, thickest in the upper fundus and thinnest in the cervix. Its circular, longitudinal, and oblique muscle fibers work together during labour and childbirth.
  • The innermost layer, the endometrium, is highly vascularised and has three main components: an inner layer of simple columnar epithelium lining the uterine cavity, an underlying endometrial stroma of areolar connective tissue, and endometrial glands extending toward the myometrium. It is divided into the stratum functionalis, which is shed during menstruation, and the stratum basalis, which regenerates the stratum functionalis each menstrual cycle.
