Detailed Solution

Gomasthas were the paid servants of the East India Company.
The Company attempted to control the weaver more directly by getting rid of the current traders and brokers involved in the textile trade. It assigned the gomastha, a paid servant, to oversee weavers, gather materials, and assess the fabric's quality. This made it impossible for Company weavers to work with other customers. The system of advancements was one method of doing this. The weavers received loans to pay for the raw materials needed for their manufacturing when an order was placed. Those who took out loans were required to give the gomastha their manufactured textiles. They were unable to deliver it to another merchant.
