Detailed Solution

Greece had been a part of the Ottoman Empire since the fifteenth century. The Greek independence war started in 1821 due to the rise of revolutionary nationalism in Europe. Greek nationalists received backing from fellow exiled Greeks and many Western Europeans who supported ancient Greek culture. Poets and artists celebrated Greece as the birthplace of European civilization and encouraged the citizens to support its fight against Muslim rule. Lord Byron, an English poet, raised money before enlisting in the war and passing away from fever in 1824. The Treaty of Constantinople, signed in 1832, officially recognized Greece's independence.
