Growing more than one crop on a piece of land during the year is known as multiple cropping.
Multiple cropping is growing more than one crop on the same land. It involves natural techniques to improve soil fertility and hence the production capacity of the land. Most poor farmers use multiple cropping because it does not require expensive inputs, while wealthy farmers use modern farming methods because they can afford the expensive inputs they need for these farming methods. During the rainy season, farmers grow jawar and bajra and use them as cattle feed. After the rainy season, they produce potatoes. In the winter season, they harvest wheat. Farmers keep some produce for consumption and sell the surplus to neighbouring villages and towns.
