Gulamgiri was written by Jyotirao Govindrao Phule. Gulamgiri means slavery. Jyotirao Phule is a social activist and social reformer. He was born in 1827. He was the first writer to write articles against the caste system. He did his best to erase the prejudices and inviolability of the caste system. He tries to bring out the injustices inflicted on the lower classes and how they are treated like slaves just because they belong to a lower class. The book is written as a dialogue between Jyotiba and a character known as Dhondiba. Jotiba dedicated his book to American slaves. Black Americans were treated like slaves and severely discriminated against because of their dark complexion. He related the condition of blacks to that of the lower classes in India. Gulamgiri is a masterpiece in itself. This is considered the first book to talk about the caste system and how certain classes were exploited at the time. It was written in 1873. It is written in the form of a dialogue.
