Gunda Dhur of Bastar was from the village of Nethanar. The British colonial government proposed the reservation of two-thirds of the forest in 1905. The villagers had been suffering for a long time because of this reservation under colonial rule. The reservations prompted people to rebel, and prominent among them was Gunda Dhur. Dhurwas of the Kanger forest took the initiative because their forests were reserved first. There wasn’t a particular leader but many thought of Gunda Dhur from the village of Nethanar as a prominent figure in the movement.
