Detailed Solution

Haldia port was established as a subsidiary port for the Kolkata port.
Created at the meeting place of the Haldi and Hooghly rivers, Haldia port was first opened in 1967. The main imports of this port include coals, steel, and iron ores. The main exports of this port are machine parts, petroleum, and various kinds of chemicals, mostly for industrial purposes. This port boasts an annual cargo tonnage of about forty million tonnes. Being operated by the Kolkata Port Trust, it is a bonafide dock complex. The ownership of this port is in the hands of the Ministry of Shipping. The creation of the Haldia port was mainly to reduce the pressure on the Kolkata port and act as a subsidiary.
