Detailed Solution

Hampi fell into ruin following the defeat of Vijayanagara in 1565 by the Deccan Sultans. Hampi was a significant commercial and cultural hub when it was at its peak in the 15th and 16th centuries. The architecture at Hampi was remarkable. The structures of the royal complex had spectacular domes, arches, and pillared halls with niches for statues. They also featured beautiful gardens with sculptural elements like lotuses and corbels and well-planned orchards. Temples served as the hub of cultural activity. Devadasis (temple dancers) entertained the gods, monarchy, and public in the halls of the Virupaksha (a type of Shiva) temple, which had several pillars. Hampi was left in ruins after Vijayanagara was defeated in 1565 by the Deccani Sultans, who were the lords of Golconda, Bijapur, Ahmadnagar, Berar, and Bidar.
