Detailed Solution

Hampi is located in the Krishna-Tungabhadra basin.
Hampi formed the nucleus of the Vijayanagara Empire, founded in 1336 and located in the Krishna-Tungabhadra basin. Hampi was a well-fortified city which is revealed by its magnificent ruins. No cementing agent or mortar went into the construction process. Instead, walls were wedged together through interlocking. Hampi bustled with cultural and commercial activities during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Hampi is also known for its one-of-a-kind architecture. Buildings were distinguished by their splendid arches, pillared halls, domes, pleasure gardens, and well-planned orchards. Chetty, Muslim merchants and Portuguese traders thronged the markets when Hampi was in its heyday. The Mahanavami festival was a momentous occasion celebrated here. Unfortunately, Hampi fell into ruin when Deccani Sultans defeated Vijayanagara in 1565.
