Detailed Solution

Handloom textile output increased steadily in the twentieth century in India between 1900 and 1940.
As factory industries increased significantly following the war, they constituted just a minor portion of the economy. Small-scale production continued to dominate the rest of the country. Only a small percentage of the industrial labour force worked in registered factories: 5% in 1911 and 10% in 1931. The rest worked in small workshops and residential units, frequently hidden in alleys and bylanes. In several cases, handicraft output increased in the twentieth century. This is prevalent even in the handloom industry. Although cheap machine-made thread wiped out the spinning sector in the nineteenth century, weavers thrived. As a result, handloom textile output increased steadily in the twentieth century, nearly tripling between 1900 and 1940.
