Harshavardhana belonged to the Vardhana dynasty.
He belonged to the Vardhana dynasty, also referred to as Pushyabhuti. Although he was born a Hindu, he accepted Mahayana Buddhism over time. Buddhist travelers from China commended Harshavardhana's actions in their writings. Harshavardhana had an empire in which he relocated his capital to Kannauj and overthrew various monarchs. One of them, Vallabhi, was a native of Gujarat. Two provinces were under Harshavardhana's rule; one was directly under his command, while the other two were feudatories. Harshavardhana was an effective administrator and even backed Nalanda University. He also had an excellent tax structure.
