Pipelines have become the convenient, risk-free, and cost-effective method of transporting natural gas, petroleum, and other petroleum products from gas plants or oil wells to consumer plants. The HVJ (Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur) plant is the first interstate gas pipeline connecting Hazira in Gujarat to Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh via Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. Commissioned in 1987, the pipeline is owned and operated by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). The pipeline project planning started after GAIL undertook the gas supply to fertiliser plants in the industrial area of Uttar Pradesh. Later, it was extended, covering several regions like Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
