High yielding variety of seeds was introduced to Indian farmers during the Green Revolution. These seeds gave higher yields per plant as compared to traditional grains. The HYV rice and wheat seeds were given to India's farmers to increase their productivity. The use of these seeds made India self-sufficient in terms of food grains. Along with HYV seeds, chemical fertilisers and pesticides were also introduced to the farmers to increase their production further.
