Detailed Solution

The word ‘Hindu’ is derived from the Indo-Aryan and Sanskrit word ‘Sindhu.’
Sindhu is also known as the River Indus.  Arabs and Iranians used the word Hindu to refer to the people who lived to the east of the river and their cultural practices, including the religious beliefs and practices that the people followed.  The Indo-Aryan and Sanskrit word Sindhu means a large body of rivers, covering “river, or ocean.” The Indus is one of the most significant rivers in the Indo- Gangetic plains.  The term ‘Hindu’ was an error on the part of the Persians as they assigned the land around the Indus river as Hindu in place of the Sanskrit word Sindhu.
