The Hindu Succession Amendment Act 2005 is an updated inheritance law which states that a Hindu family's sons, daughters and mothers can get an equal share in the land. This law had become necessary because, in some states, under the previous law, Hindu women could not claim a share in the family’s agricultural land. As it applies to all states and union territories, the new law protects the interests of Hindu women nationwide.
