Hindus perform puja in temples. For some Hindus, it can be a daily ritual, for others, a recurring event, and for yet others, a rare occurrence. Pujas may be performed regularly at different times in some temples and only sometimes in others. Arati, or the waving of lit lamps before an image of a god or someone to be honoured, is a significant form of puja in Indian temples and home worship. A prayer or hymn is chanted or sung when the worshipper makes three or more clockwise revolutions around the lamp as part of the ritual. The temple is frequently circled during worship. The movements of the priest inside the temple are accompanied by the ringing of bells, the movement of a flame, and performing havan or doing art/bhajan.
