Through a technique known as decipherment, historians and scholars can decipher the messages contained in these inscriptions. These inscriptions were inscribed over a thousand years ago, for the most part. The inscriptions' languages and scripts have evolved. One of the most well-known decipherment stories originates from Egypt, a nation in North Africa where kings and queens ruled about 5000 years ago. A stone with inscriptions on it that were written in three different languages and scripts was discovered here (Greek and two forms of Egyptian). Greek-reading scholars discovered that the names of kings and queens were encased in a little frame known as a cartouche. After that, they compared the Greek and Egyptian symbols side by side and determined which sounds the Egyptian letters represented.
