Detailed Solution

Concept: The main purpose of the HMP pathway is to produce reduced NADPH and pentose phosphates for the synthesis of nucleic acids. The HMP shunt mechanism contains oxidative and non-oxidative stages. The pentose phosphate pathway is characterised by the oxidation of glucose-6-phosphate during the oxidative phase, which produces one molecule of pentose phosphate, two molecules of NADPH, and one molecule of CO2. Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and fructose-6-phosphate, two glycolytic intermediates produced by HMP shunt, can directly take part in the glycolysis route or EMP.
Hence, the choice for the right answer is Hence (3) .
