How are domestic animals useful to us?

Domestic animals are those that live with humans in homes or farms. Examples include cats, dogs, cows, buffaloes, goats, hens, horses, camels, and sheep. These animals are useful to humans in many ways—providing food, milk, clothing materials, transportation, protection, and companionship.

Uses of Domestic Animals

1. Cows – The most useful domestic animal. They provide milk, which is used to make butter, curd, cheese, and other dairy products.
2. Buffaloes – Kept for milk, meat, ploughing fields, and pulling carts.
3. Sheep – Valued for wool and meat. Wool from sheep’s hair is used to make warm clothes.
4. Horses – Used for riding, carrying goods, ploughing fields, pulling carts and carriages, and also in races.
5. Camels – Known as the “ship of the desert.” They provide milk, meat, and serve as the main mode of transport in desert regions.
6. Dogs – Loyal companions that guard homes and help in hunting. Trained dogs are also used by police to detect criminals.
7. Cats – Kept mainly for companionship.
8. Hens and goats – Provide eggs, meat, and other products.

Domestic animals support human life in countless ways. They must be treated with respect, cared for properly, and provided with adequate food and shelter.
