Detailed Solution

The last Mughal emperor spent his final days living a wretched life.
Bahadur Shah II, often known as Bahadur Shah Zafar, was the final Mughal emperor and led a wretched life.
1)      Mughal emperors had little significance after Aurangzeb's passing.
2)      The 1857 rebellion required a leader who would take over after the British were driven out of the nation. It was decided that the Mughal emperor would be in charge.
3)      Bahadur Shah played a significant part in the uprising, although initially being a reluctant leader.
4)      All minor lords and chieftains were urged to join the uprising in letters written by Bahadur Shah. However, Bahadur Shah departed Lucknow and resumed his war against the British from Delhi until the British seized it in September 1857 AD.
5)      His sons and a few other rebels were taken prisoner by the English at the end of the insurrection when it was put down. Before his elderly eyes, two of his sons and a grandson were shot and killed. To terrorize the rebels, their bodies were hanged at Khooni Darwaja in Delhi.
6)      Bahadur Shah himself was exiled to Rangoon, where he died in 1862. His final words were, "Zafar was truly unhappy for he could not have a six-foot grave in the street of his beloved country."
