How do protozoa obtain and digest food despite lacking a digestive system?

Protozoa are unicellular organisms that can obtain and digest food through a process called phagocytosis. 

During phagocytosis, the protozoan extends its cell membrane to surround and engulf a food particle, forming a food vacuole. 

Within the vacuole, digestive enzymes break down the food particle into smaller molecules that can be absorbed and used for energy and growth. 

This allows protozoa to obtain nutrients and energy without the need for a separate digestive system. The food vacuole then moves to the cell's centre, where the digestive process occurs.
