Detailed Solution

Amoebas are single-celled organisms that take in food through their entire body surface. They accomplish this by forming pseudopodia, which are temporary extensions of the cell membrane that can surround and engulf food particles.

The process by which Amoeba takes in food is known as phagocytosis. During phagocytosis, the organism wraps its pseudopodia around a food particle to form a food vacuole. The vacuole then fuses with lysosomes, specialized organelles that contain digestive enzymes, to digest the food particle. The nutrients and energy released by this process are absorbed into the cytoplasm of the organism, and waste products are expelled.

Unlike multicellular organisms that have specialized organs for taking in food, amoebas do not have a mouth or teeth. Instead, they use their entire body surface for the process of phagocytosis. This mode of nutrition allows amoebas to obtain a continuous supply of energy and nutrients to support their growth and reproduction.
