Detailed Solution

You can remember the 7 strong acids by using the mnemonic: "Hi BCl is HF, HBr, HClO4, HCl, H2SO4, HNO3."

The seven strong acids are Hydrochloric acid (HCl), Hydrobromic acid (HBr), Hydroiodic acid (HI), Nitric acid (HNO3), Sulfuric acid (H2SO4), Perchloric acid (HClO4), and Chloric acid (HClO3). These acids completely dissociate in water, meaning they release all their hydrogen ions, making them strong acids.

A popular mnemonic to remember them is "Hi BrINCl HClO4," where:

  • Hi stands for HI (Hydroiodic acid)
  • Br stands for HBr (Hydrobromic acid)
  • IN stands for HIn (HCl, Hydrochloric acid)
  • Cl stands for Chloric acids and HClO4 (Perchloric acid)
  • H2SO4 (Sulfuric acid) and HNO3 (Nitric acid) are also strong acids included.

Knowing these acids is useful in chemistry because their behavior in reactions and in solutions is predictable and strong acids are widely used in labs and industries.
