Detailed Solution

Chlorophyll transfers energy through resonance energy transfer. When a chlorophyll molecule absorbs a photon, an electron is excited to a higher energy state. Instead of releasing that energy as heat or light, the molecule passes the energy to a neighboring chlorophyll in the antenna complex. This happens via electromagnetic interaction without the movement of electrons themselves. The energy moves from molecule to molecule until it reaches a special pair of chlorophyll a molecules in the reaction center of the photosystem. There, the excited electron is transferred to an electron acceptor molecule, initiating the electron transport chain. This highly coordinated energy transfer ensures that sunlight is efficiently converted into chemical energy to drive photosynthesis.
