Detailed Solution

Increases in salinity over-irrigation affect the salinity of the soil. Salt is a natural content in the soil. The increase in the amount of salt in the soil, known as salinization, is not desirable for the cultivation of crops. There are many reasons for salinization, like withdrawal of the ocean, overirrigation, and weathering. Water contains various salts and ions in dissolved form. When the land is irrigated, these minerals and salts get added to the soil. Excess irrigation thus increases the salt content in the soil. Overly saline soil negatively affects the growth of crops. The yield decreases, and the quality of cultivation gets affected. The plant vitality gets reduced, and seeds germinate slowly due to increased salt content in the soil.
