Concept: The astronomers claimed to have found a dwarf galaxy when they discovered this galaxy in November 2003. The galaxy has more than a billion stars and is about 25,000 light years away from our solar system.

Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy is now the galaxy that is nearest to the Milky Way. Canis Major Overdensity is another name for it. The solar system is located approximately 25,000 light years from the galaxy. The Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy is thought to have more than a billion stars.
A strong stellar overdensity with an elliptical form was found in November 2003 by an international team of astronomers from Italy, Britain, France, and Australia. The Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy eventually came to be known as this.
