Detailed Solution

Prokaryotic cells are the primitive types of cells that are less developed and are present in bacteria and simpler organisms. Eukaryotic cells are more developed cells, and they are present in higher organisms. The prokaryotic cells are much smaller in comparison to the eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells always have a cell wall made up of peptidoglycans whereas eukaryotic cells have cell walls made of cellulose. They also have cell membranes made of lipids. Prokaryotic cells do not have a well-defined nucleus and the genetic material is present in the cytoplasm. In case of eukaryotic cells, the well-defined nucleus is present which contains the genetic material inside it. Eukaryotic cells also have membrane bound cell organelles which the prokaryotic cells lack.

Hence, the correct option is D.
