How is clayey soil useful for crops?

Clayey soil useful for crops because of its following properties:

(i) It has very good water holding capacity.

(ii) The percolation rate is least in clayey soil.

(ii) It is rich in organic matter. 

(iv) This soil is rich in humus and is very fertile. 

For growing crops such as wheat, gram, and paddy, the soil that is good at retaining water and rich in organic matter is suitable. Since clayey soils have these characteristics, they are useful for these kinds of crops.
