How is oxygen produced on the space station?

Oxygen on the space station is made by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using a machine called an "oxygen generator." This is called "electrolysis." Extra oxygen is also sent up in tanks during supply missions. The station carefully measures air levels to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Old air is cleaned and reused so nothing is wasted.
