Concept- Give the fundamental definitions of force and pressure. To determine the relationship between pressure and force, use the equation P=F/A. Check to see if they are proportional. Whenever someone asks you about force, you will immediately give the definition of force as the push or pull on an object by another because we were taught this in elementary school. However, as we progress through the grades, we learn that it is the result of the interaction of more than one object. It is the cause of a change in the state of an object's motion. Furthermore, keep in mind that it is a vector quantity with both direction and magnitude. Newton is the SI unit of force (N) .
Pressure: Whereas pressure can simply be defined as the force applied to an object per unit area. The equation for force can be expressed mathematically using the above definition:

(In the SI unit system, unit area is the area of a square with a length of 1m.) Pascal is its metric unit (Pa) . Because force is in the numerator, it is obvious that as force increases, pressure increases, and as force decreases, pressure decreases.
