Detailed Solution

Four Anglo- Mysore wars were fought in the 18th century.
The kingdom of Mysore evolved as an independent kingdom in the 18th century. It became a powerful kingdom under the rule of Haider Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan. They emerged as the most advanced rulers of the time. Tipu Sultan was well acquainted with western thoughts. Additionally, he kept cordial ties with the French. However, Mysore was commonly in conflict with the  English. Tipu Sultan had stopped the export of sandalwood, spices, etc. from ports at Malabar. He also forbade the local merchants to be involved with the British. The British found Mysore state to be a hindrance. There were four Anglo-Mysore wars in the 18th century.
