How many bones are present in the body of a newborn infant?

A newborn infant has approximately 300 bones, which is significantly more than the 206 bones of an adult. This is due to the fact that some of an infant's bones have not yet fused together, allowing for greater flexibility and growth. 

An infant's bones are also softer allowing for faster growth and development. By adulthood, the infant's bones will have hardened and become denser, providing the necessary support and stability for daily activities.

Some of these bones will fuse and become one solid bone as the infant grows, resulting in a total number of 206 bones in an adult.
