20 million printed books flooded the European marketplaces in the second half of the fifteenth century.
Johann Gutenberg created the first printing press in the 1430s. This invention changed the speed of printing books. Most European nations installed printing presses between the years 1450 and 1550. Thus the production of books increased as the number of printing presses increased. In the sixteenth century, this number rose to around 200 million copies. The print revolution was sparked by this transition from manual to mechanical printing.
