The Second World War broke out only two decades after the First World War. The war resulted in immense economic devastation around the world. During the two decades after the war, many former colonies of the European countries gained independence. Although they gained independence, the poverty resulting from colonial exploitation still lingered. And the economic plans designed for Western countries did not suit these developing countries. So, 77 developing countries organised themselves into the Group of 77 (G-77) to demand an NIEO.
