Detailed Solution

72 delegates met to establish the Indian National Congress. The 72 delegates from throughout the nation gathered in Bombay in December 1885 to formally constitute the Indian National Congress. Early pioneers from Bombay and Calcutta included Dadabhai Naoroji, Pherozeshah Mehta, Badruddin Tyabji, W.C. Bonnerji, Surendranath Banerji, Romesh Chandra Dutt, and S. Subramania Iyer. Naoroji, a merchant and publicist living in London, who was also a member of the British Parliament, guided the younger nationalists. A.O. Hume, a former British official, also contributed to the interaction of Indians from various districts.
