How many Ekadashis usually occur in a month?

Generally, there are two Ekadashis in a month — one during the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and another during the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the moon. Therefore, a year usually has twenty-four Ekadashis. However, in certain lunar years with an extra month (Adhik Maas), there can be twenty-six. Each Ekadashi has a specific name and significance, like Nirjala Ekadashi or Dev Uthani Ekadashi, and is observed with fasting, prayer, and remembrance of Lord Vishnu. These days encourage spiritual discipline and purification by controlling desires and focusing on inner peace and devotion.
