Detailed Solution

22 languages are recognised as the Scheduled Languages by the Indian Constitution.
The Language Policy served as a key test for the Indian federation. No particular language was given the title of national language under the Constitution. The designated official language is Hindi. However, only roughly 40% of Indians are native speakers of Hindi. As a result, there were various protections in place for other languages. In addition to Hindi, the Constitution recognises 21 other languages as Scheduled Languages. A candidate may choose to take the exam in either of these languages when applying for posts with the Central Government. Additionally, states have their own official tongues. The official language of the relevant State is used for a large portion of government activities.
