Detailed Solution

There are four lions in the lion capital.
Ashoka carved many pillars but the most important is the Lion capital which is carved in Sarnath pillars located in India  (ca. 250 BCE). Now the capital is displayed at the Sarnath Museum and the pillar is still there in the same place where it has been previously. It is a sculpture of four Asiatic lions standing back to back. Each of them symbolizes power, courage, confidence, and pride. They are placed above a lotus in a circular shape. Other animals like a horse and a bull are also there in the pillar. This pillar is adopted as the national emblem of India.  Hence, the correct option is 4.
