Detailed Solution

3 lists divide the power between the union and state governments in India. They are provided in the VII Schedule of the Indian Constitution. They are the Central or Union List, the State List and the Concurrent List. The Union List consists of subjects of national importance, e.g., defence, army, etc. and the centre has the sole power to make laws on them. The State List contains subjects that come under the state government's jurisdiction. E.g. Police, hospitals, etc. On the subjects listed in the Concurrent List, both the central and state governments have the authority to pass laws. E.g. Education, forest, etc. In case of a conflict, central government laws prevail.
