Detailed Solution

The mammary glands, are paired structures which consists of glandular tissue and varying amounts of fat. Each breast's glandular tissue is organised into 15-20 mammary lobes, each containing clusters of cells called alveoli. These alveoli are responsible for secreting milk, which is stored within their cavities or lumens. The milk is then transported through mammary tubules.

Within each lobe, the tubules eventually converge to form a larger mammary duct. Several mammary ducts from different lobes come together to create a wider structure called the mammary ampulla. This mammary ampulla is connected to the lactiferous duct, which serves as the conduit through which milk is expressed or sucked out, typically during breastfeeding. This complex network of lobes, alveoli, tubules, ducts, and ampullae enables the production, storage, and transportation of milk in the mammary glands.
