Detailed Solution

299 members had the Constituent Assembly that wrote the Indian Constitution.
Before 1947, the Constituent Assembly had a total of 389 members. The overall number had been modified after 1947. The Cabinet Mission Plan, which established the Constituent Assembly of India, rejected adult voting for elections to the Constituent Assembly and instead recommended indirect elections by members of the existing elected provincial legislatures. In addition to the 292 members elected by the Provincial Legislative Assembly, the Princely States and the Chief Commissioner's Provinces contributed 93 and 4 members to the Constituent Assembly for a total of 389 members. Following Pakistan's independence in 1947, the total number of seats had reduced to 299 as several provinces and princely states became part of the country.
