During the 18th century, Hindus started the bhakti movement. Bhakti is devotion towards the chosen deity and all people irrespective of their caste and gender can follow the path of bhakti. That is it refers to an intimate, two-way relationship between devotees and god. Bhakti is a path to Bhagavad (god). Each one started to devote a deity. The Bhakti movement was led by the Alvars and Nayanars. These leaders were from different caste societies. But they all started to preach about the god and goddess through their stories and their poems in the local language which is understandable by all.
