Detailed Solution

Six newly independent countries emerged after the fall of Yugoslavia. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was a federation made up of six socialist republics that were created in 1943 during World War II. The country was a regional force and an economic success story from 1960 until 1980. Following Tito's death in 1980, politicians like Slobodan Milosevic rose to prominence and exploited the crumbling state by using Serbian ultra-nationalism to fan the embers of conflict in neighbouring countries. Slovenia, followed by Croatia, voted for independence and broke away from Yugoslavia in 1991 as nationalism rose. Following the victory of the Allies in World War II, Yugoslavia was divided into six countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
